Ice Conditions:
Updated: 1/16/21
Ice Thickness: ~13"-15"
Notes: Ice greatly varies right now because of the warm temps/rain/wet snow recently. In the middle of the lake it was about 15". Near the main launch it was closer to 13. There is about 1"-2" of slush/snow on top. I did end up driving my truck (Toyota Tacoma) out later in the day to load up my stuff and kid (who had sopping wet snow gear from the warm temps) and had no issues. There were several vehicles out throughout the day when we go there, would still use caution with bigger vehicles but the slush from recent precipitation seems to be firming up a bit.
The ice has about 1-2" of semi-frozen slush on top which makes it less-than-ideal for ice skating but someone with a plow on an ATV or some able bodies with good snow shovels could remedy that. The layer of slush does come off pretty clean.
As always, use extreme caution at the following locations as they have moving water all year and stay very thin:
-River entrance north of the beach
-Morning glory
-Bay north of the NN boat launch - a creek enters in that location and the bay itself is very shallow
-Bay north of the morning glory - a creek enters there
Fishing Report:
Updated: 1/16/21
Fishing: We started fishing at about 1:30 PM and were marking a lot of fish in 17FoW. The fish were very picky, but steady. They didn't want waxies but were able to land several gills on a jig with pink plastic. Nothing big but fun. At about 3:30 PM the activity picked up and we started landing some crappies. We were catching them at about 14' in 17 FoW on pink plastics and crappie minnows/rosie reds. The warm temps made my kid's snow gear sopping wet so we ended up packing up before dark but ended up landing a nice crappie on a crappie minnow via tip-down while loading up.
Tried some tip ups at 17, 13, and 9 FoW using shiners and suckers without success.
